PPHP Voting Rocks! Civic Engagement Crafting Event

Voting Rocks! Civic Engagement Crafting Event
Thursday, July 9, 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Brewster, NY

Hey Putnam County! Let's join together to paint rocks and discuss the importance of ensuring your community is registered for this year's elections!  Communities who are civically engaged have better public health outcomes. By encouraging our communities to make their voices heard, we are helping them become healthier!
Haven't registered before? Changed addresses? Want to know how to help other people fill out their forms? We will work through the voter registration form together so you can become a registration expert and better support all eligible people register to vote!

You're probably wondering what this has to do with rocks: we'll use them as colorful paper weights for our future tabling events. You are also welcome to keep and use them for whatever your heart desires!

Painting supplies, rocks, snacks and beverages will be provided. This event will be outside in the park (exact location upon registration).

PPHP Film Screening

PPHP Presents: Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution (2020)
Virtual Film Screening
Wednesday, July 22, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

In the early 1970s, teenagers with disabilities faced a future shaped by isolation, discrimination and institutionalization. Camp Jened, a ramshackle camp “for the handicapped” (a term no longer used) in the Catskills, exploded those confines. Jened was their freewheeling Utopia, a place with summertime sports, smoking and make-out sessions awaiting everyone, and campers experienced liberation and full inclusion as  human beings.

Their bonds endured as many migrated West to Berkeley, California — a hotbed of activism where friends from Camp Jened realized that disruption, civil disobedience, and political participation could change the future for millions.

In honor of Disability Pride Month, join us for a virtual screening of Crip Camp (2020), a documentary focused on the power of a grassroots movement for disability civil rights.

Looking forward to seeing you July 22!

PPHP Destigmatizing Abortion During Reproductive Oppression Training

Destigmatizing Abortion During Reproductive Oppression
Thursday, July 30, 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.

Abortion is a common health care procedure; one in four women in the United States have had an abortion. But it can be incredibly difficult to talk about due to the stigma around it, despite the widespread need for this critical health care service. What's more, we've seen unprecedented attacks on reproductive freedom across the country, from the overturn of Roe v. Wade to the federal defund of Planned Parenthood. These attacks have worsened abortion stigma and reproductive freedom while spurring some people to speak in support of abortion more openly and boldly.

In this training, we'll cover how stigma affects access to care, ways to discuss abortion that push against stigma, and how abortion is currently being discussed in our social discourse.

ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES

PPHP We Vote Together Civic Engagement

Make a Plan to Vote!

Election Day is coming up for the New York general election. Voting is an important part of civic engagement because communities that have high rates of voting often have better health outcomes. There are multiple ways to vote, but what's most important is that you make a plan to ensure your voice is heard. Share with Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic how you'll be voting this year!

Some voting reminders: The General Election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Early Voting will take place on Saturday, October 24 to Sunday, November 1. The deadline to register before the election is Saturday, October 24. Visit elections.ny.gov to check your voter registration status, and check out our hub for Voting and Civic Engagement Resources.

 PPHP Share Your Story

Read The Youth Voice Newsletter and Share Your Story

Every Planned Parenthood supporter and patient advocate has a story to tell as to why they support access to sexual and reproductive health care. Stories humanize our work to show Planned Parenthood's commitment to the health and wellness of the people and communities we serve through our health care services, education programs, and fearless advocacy. With sexual and reproductive health care under constant attack, it is essential that we share as many stories as possible to raise awareness and engage more people in our movement.

We are especially interested in hearing from young people, and with your permission, selected stories may be featured in our new youth newsletter, The Youth Voice, to help inspire and inform others across our community.
